Crowne Plaza Tulsa – Southern Hills, Tulsa, Okla.
It was our first time staying at the Crowne Plaza Tulsa – Southern Hills. We came up for my daughter’s graduation from Oral Roberts University and it’s right across the street from the Mabee Center. It also is next door (for better or for worse) to a Walmart Supercenter and across the street from Zio’s Italian Kitchen, one of our favorite restaurants in Tulsa. All these places are within easy walking distance and if the weather is nice (which it was for the most part), it’s a pleasant walk to get around to everything you need without renting a car or hailing a rideshare. There is even a free shuttle to the airport, and if you want to get from the airport to the hotel the shuttle will pick you up. Just make sure to call the hotel directly and press “0” to talk to the front desk to make a reservation. Otherwise you’ll be standing around Tulsa International Airport waiting for a really long time.
If you want a mini-fridge, request a room on the tenth or eleventh floor. There was mention of a small upcharge, but we were not charged extra since we arrived early for optimum room assignment.
The swimming pool is on the second floor and has generously long hours. It’s enclosed in glass with multiple sliding doors like a solarium that opens to an outdoor deck, so anything that you read that says there is an indoor pool AND an outdoor pool is taking about the same one. The depth markers are incorrect in saying that it goes to 6 feet (1.8m) at the deep end. I’m 5’10” (178cm) and I could stand flat-footed at the deepest part and have water only up to my neck, so I’m guessing the pool is a maximum 5-1/2 feet deep. Just don’t dive in head first by any means.
We really enjoyed the full breakfast buffet each morning. There was a variety of fresh fruit, French toast, cereal, oatmeal, eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and home fries (potatoes). Coffee, tea, milk, and orange juice and apple juice were available for beverages. There is also a Keurig coffee maker in the room. Ask for extra K-cups when you check in if you think you might want more than two each of regular and decaf for your stay.
The room was spacious and comfortable with plenty of power outlets for charging devices. The bed was comfy and soft, and there was a desk with a chair plus an armchair and small ottoman with a side table in the room. From the 11th floor on the even-numbered room side (facing East), you have a great view of the ORU campus (see photo).
The staff were courteous and helpful, and check-out was quick and smooth. The password for WiFi is provided at check-in if you are not using the IHG Select Club method.
For visiting Tulsa and the ORU campus, this location can’t be beaten. 4/5 ✨ stars.
